You can try this recipe with any juicy fruit but summer stone fruits or even berries works best for crisp recipes. My idea was to use plums with cherries, to create the perfect dessert; which is low in sugar and fat which usually makes crisp unhealthy. So these crisps are close to baked stone fruit with crispy oats and spelt flour topping; it’s always good to stay away from refined flour right? I love using stone fruits for crisps but if they are not in season just use frozen counterparts from peaches to plums or berries whatever you like; just increase baking time to 2-3 minutes more of whatever specified in the recipe.Spelt Crisp RamekinsPlum Cherry Spelt Crisps

You can also add nuts for the topping like slivered almonds, pecans or walnuts, but as I am going to share this dessert with my toddlers so I avoided nuts completely. But if you love the nuts flavor or looking for a vegan crisp recipe; then just substitute regular butter for almond butter, cashew butter or peanut butter. So I kept it in the refrigerator, which I am going to serve him for the breakfast with warm milk . Make sure to put the ramekins on an old baking tray or pan as bubbling fruit might spill out.

  • 1 1/2 cups ripe purple plums (pitted and chopped).
  • 8-10 cherries (pitted and halved).
  • 1 1/2 tsp raw sugar.
  • 3 tsp instant tapioca/ 2 tsp corn starch.
  • 3 tbsp spelt flour.
  • 1/3 cup rolled oats.
  • 1 1/2 tbsp lightly packed brown sugar.
  • 2 tsp lime juice.
  • 1 tsp almond extract.
  • 3 tsp cold butter (chopped).


  1. Preheat your oven to 350° F.
  2. In a small bowl combine plums, cherries, instant tapioca, lime juice and raw sugar. Divide the mixture into three ramekin bowls. Set aside ramekins on a rimmed baking sheet or baking pan.
  3. In another bowl combine spelt flour, butter, almond extract, rolled oats, and brown sugar; mix well until mixture looks crumbly.
  4. Sprinkle the spelt and oats crumble on fruit mixture.
  5. Bake for 25- 30 minutes or until fruit starts bubbling and topping gets golden brown.
  6. Remove from the oven and serve hot or warm.
