Plum Cherry Spelt Crisps Ramekins made with fresh plums, cherries, oats and spelt flour. Who says that dessert needs to be unhealthy? You can definitely serve this lightly sweetened dessert as breakfast or the part of your brunch menu.
You can try this recipe with any juicy fruit but summer stone fruits or even berries works best for crisp recipes. My idea was to use plums with cherries, to create the perfect dessert; which is low in sugar and fat which usually makes crisp unhealthy. So these crisps are close to baked stone fruit with crispy oats and spelt flour topping; it’s always good to stay away from refined flour right? I love using stone fruits for crisps but if they are not in season just use frozen counterparts from peaches to plums or berries whatever you like; just increase baking time to 2-3 minutes more of whatever specified in the recipe.
You can also add nuts for the topping like slivered almonds, pecans or walnuts, but as I am going to share this dessert with my toddlers so I avoided nuts completely. But if you love the nuts flavor or looking for a vegan crisp recipe; then just substitute regular butter for almond butter, cashew butter or peanut butter. Just check my Healthy Almond Butter Berry Crisp for Two. I have used three individual ramekins for three of us but one ramekin was too much for him. So I kept it in the refrigerator, which I am going to serve him for the breakfast with warm milk . Make sure to put the ramekins on an old baking tray or pan as bubbling fruit might spill out.
Also if you don’t have ramekins then you can bake this plum cherry spelt crisp in a regular baking dish, just bake for 8-10 minutes more. Trust me you are going to bake this amazing plum cherry spelt crisps dessert for more than once.
