We are actually obsessed with steel cut oatmeal, which is actually a good thing considering health point of view. I try to incorporate fresh seasonal ingredients in my oatmeal; which makes it yummy, appealing and trust me it’s more appetizing. The recent addition to my oatmeal is apple pie filling, who doesn’t love apple pie? The combination of tart and sweet apples gently spiced with cinnamon or nutmeg and a flakey pie crust. But this apple pie oatmeal is a way healthier breakfast option than apple pie itself.
Apple pie is one of my first dessert choice, which I love to eat all year around. Thanks to the availability of fresh apples. Also, I prefer to eat desserts for breakfast because I really have a sweet tooth. But dessert for breakfast is not really a healthy breakfast option, so I have combined my favorite steel cut oatmeal with apple pie filling; to create this healthier breakfast option. You can also combine overnight oats and apple pie filling for this recipe, but I prefer warm breakfast in fall and winter season.
This recipe is perfect for regular breakfast rotation and this is one of the oatmeal recipes that your kids are going to enjoy too. It took me just a single try to master the perfect recipe for apple pie oatmeal; as I am used to adding apples to the regular oatmeal for my toddler.
I have used Gala apples for this recipe, which are actually mild in taste. But you can use any of the apple varieties from sweet to tart for this recipe and adjust the amount of sugar according to your taste. This recipe is also pretty suitable for Thanksgiving breakfast. If you are not a fan of warm breakfast than you can also serve this apple pie oatmeal either chilled or at room temperature.
